Cicero Independiente Promotes Corazón’s HIV/STI Services and LGBTQ+ Outreach.

September 30, 2021, Cicero, IL. — Corazón Community Services has been the subject of a Cicero Independiente article highlighting its HIV/STI services and its outreach to the substantial LGBTQ+ community in Cicero and Berwyn. The article includes interviews with Corazon’s Director of Health Services, Vanessa Melgoza, and Community Outreach and Education Manager, Roy Jaime, who explain the importance of the agency’s HIV/STI services in meeting local needs.

Corazón’s Youth Programming Featured in ABC 7 Special for Hispanic Heritage Month.

Cicero, IL. — Corazón Community Services is delighted to be featured in an ABC 7 Chicago special for Hispanic Heritage Month. The special features interviews with agency staff and youth to showcase the positive impact of our youth programming on the community.

Chicago Community Trust Awards Corazón $75,000 to Increase COVID-19 Vaccination Among Latinx Youth.

August 6, 2021, Cicero, IL. — Corazón Community Services has received a $75,000 grant from the Chicago Community Trust to increase COVID-19 vaccination rates among Latinx youth, who are disproportionately at risk for infection, due to lower overall vaccination rates in communities of color.

These funds will be used to distribute health information, hold public vaccination events, and purchase a mobile testing vehicle. This vehicle will not only allow Corazón to offer COVID-19 vaccinations to deal with the current pandemic, but equip the agency to offer HIV/STI testing, flu vaccines, and health screenings for a wide range of health conditions for many years to come.

Corazón Receives $30,000 Grant from Getting to Zero Illinois to Enhance HIV Testing and Counseling Among Latinx MSM.

June 10, 2021, Cicero, IL. — Getting to Zero Illinois has awarded Corazón Community Services a $30,000 grant to enhance the agency’s HIV outreach and testing to help bring down HIV infection and transmissibility among Latinx men who have sex with men (MSM), a population with historically high infection rates.

This funding is designed to support the the state of Illinois’ goals to increase the number of HIV positive individuals who have an undetectable viral load and to increase the number of HIV negative individuals on pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). This funding will allow the agency to do more intensive outreach through events and increased staffing.
